Barnes and Noble has unveiled their brand new Nook Tablet just in time to hit stores for the holiday shopping season of 2011. Highlights include a VividView 7" touchscreen, dual 1 GHz processor, 16GB of memory, 1GB of Ram, a super long lasting 11.5 hour battery and a total weight that comes in under one pound. The Nook also comes preloaded with Netflix, Hulu Plus and Pandora all running on a custom user interface built on top of Android 2.3.
Why it's cool: In contrast to the Kindle Fire, which is sort of a living invitation to use and purchase Amazon related content, the Nook is far more open about allowing users to utilize content services from a variety of vendors. Furthermore, while only costly about $50 more, the Nook has far stronger internal specs than the Fire (see above). Could make a nice Christmas gift... *clears throat*
