Five Signs You’re Doing it Wrong: Online Dating

Written by on August 11, 2011 in Dating Tips for Men - No comments

Online dating is a tricky business for guys. You want to find the delicate balance between presenting the best case version of yourself and outright misrepresentation. You need to figure out what the right questions are to ask, strategies for increasing your response rates and what, if anything, you might be doing that's creating negative feedback.

And all of this has to be accomplished with just a few JPEG pictures of yourself and some text on a screen. Not necessarily the most natural thing in the world.

But there are a few mistakes out there repeated over and over again that, if a guy can avoid, will make his online dating life a whole lot easier (and way more fruitful). Here are five things you might be doing wrong if you're a guy who is currently exploring the world of online dating.

1. You post crummy pictures

Seems obvious, doesn't it? Yet there are so many guys out there who use sub par pictures of themselves. If you're making an honest attempt at meeting someone online then it's important to put your best foot (or in this case, face) forward.

Now I'm not advocating Photoshopping your pics, disguising your face through bad lighting or only showing extreme long shots where someone would have to squint just to see the top of your head. What I'm saying is just have a few simple, high quality pics that give an accurate account of how you look when you're at your best. Including a few shots where you're doing one of your favorite hobbies is also a nice way to provoke conversation and interest.

If you're not sure what your best photos are, don't be afraid to get some feedback from friends. I'm sure they'd be happy to make fun of you help you out.
